Our People of St. Andrew's
The people of St. Andrew's are the congregation (members and adherents) as well as visitors, along with our staff.
Currently our congregational roll has 359 official members and 292 adherents, including children.
Our paid staff includes one minister, administrative assistant, director of music, bookkeeper, and two custodial staff.
Two positions receive honorariums: treasurer and envelope secretary.

The Rev. John
C. Borthwick,
B.A., M.Div.,
Minister |
John began his ministry at St. Andrew's in January 2003 as
the initial member of a future
co-ministry team. He was joined
by The Rev. Jan Hazlett in September 2003. They worked cooperatively (until Jan accepted a call in Alberta in November 2006) sharing the overall ministry of St. Andrew's.
Prior to coming to St. Andrew's, John was Minister of Rexdale Presbyterian Church in Toronto for five years.
He is a graduate of Knox College and McMaster University. His current areas of interest are
conflict mediation, change theory, and the influences of consumer culture on society.
John is married to Kate and they have a young son
named Logan and a young daughter named Shannon.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Spencer,
Minister in Association |
The full designation of this voluntary position is "Minister in Association in support of the whole people of God in their daily life and work."
Dr. Bob believes that God gifts every Christian. He served congregations in Saskatchewan and Ontario, before being called by the Presbyterian Church to start Crieff Hills Community Retreat & Conference Centre, where he served for 24 years. Throughout his first 36 years of ordained ministry he studied and taught in various fields related to congregational life and lay leadership. He also served on many boards and committees both civic and church (national & international), in various capacities, including many years on the Wellington County Board of Education. Over the last 10 years he has served as an Interim Minister in five Presbyterian congregations in southwestern Ontario.
Dr. Bob is assisting the people of St. Andrew’s to recognize and develop their God-given gifts in order to serve others in their daily life. |

After graduating with a bachelor of education from Nipissing University in June, Cordelia Sturtevant joined the ministry team at St. Andrew's in November of 2011.
Cordelia comes from St. Andrew's Presbyterian in Kitchener Waterloo where she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and as the director of their Christmas pageant for a few years. After a summer working as the director of a leadership development program for teens at Camp Crossroads in Muskoka, Cordelia is excited to jump into this new ministry, and to see that St. Andrew's youth and children's ministries keep going and keep growing! |

Fred Gingrich,
Director of Music |
| Fred studied organ with Jan Overduin at Wilfrid Laurier University, graduating in 1983 with a Bachelor of Music degree specializing in the Honours Church Music programme. In 1989, he completed the Associate exam with The Royal Canadian College of Organists. |
|
Fred has been involved with the music programme in various churches including Woodside Bible Fellowship, Elmira; St. John's Anglican, Kitchener; Olivet United, Kitchener; and St. John's Anglican, Elora.
Also Fred has sung in choirs including the W.L.U. Chapel Choir, Elora Festival Chorus and Menno Singers.
In September, 1995, Fred arrived at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Guelph, as Organist along with Gordon Burnett as Choir Director. Upon Gordon's resignation in 1999, Fred added the duties of Choir Director to his existing one of Organist in September, 1999.
Residing in Elmira, Ontario, Fred enjoys hiking, biking and gardening. He co-owns and operates Brubacher Shoes Ltd., Elmira, and is the Treasurer for the Waterloo-Wellington Chapter of The Royal Canadian College of Organists. |

Board of Managers

Meets monthly on the second Thursday of the month, except during July and August (unless for a special meeting at the call of the Chair).
A committee of the congregation, elected at the annual congregational meeting with responsibility for the finance and property of the congregation. Its meetings and membership are open to both members and adherents of the congregation.

Session
Clerk of Session: Nancy Nicol
Meets monthly on the third Tuesday of the month, except during July and August (unless for a special meeting).
The Session, composed of the minister (teaching elder) along with the ruling elders, is responsible to Presbytery for the good order and discipline of the congregation, including worship, education, mission, membership, use of property, sacraments and pastoral care. All individuals and organizations within the congregation are subject to the authority of the Session whose meetings and records are closed to all except elders.
